Michael Gabriel, a seasoned musician originally from Montreal, Canada, now residing north of Halifax, Nova Scotia, has emerged as a prominent figure in the Canadian and International music scene. With a diverse musical background as a former member of the iconic band Men Without Hats and legendary Isinglass, Michael has now embarked on a solo journey. His debut solo album, “Surfacing,” released on June 21, 2023, showcases his genre-blurring versatility and passion for Indie, Electronica, Chill Out, House, Hip Hop, Acid Jazz, and IDM.

Michael Gabriel’s pedigree is clearly evident. ‘Farewell My Love,’ as soon as this track opened, I thought Moby. “Sweet Toxin” is such lovely tapestry of sonic brilliance; the rhythm grabs you in its groove and the meandering synth and vocals give you focus. But then, wow, the horn makes an appearance, and the track takes a turn to a kinda funky groove. The track turns into a groove that any electronic producer would be proud of. It’s this switch to an entirely new groove and feel that sets Michael apart. Being able to do so whilst tying it in with the whole track shows pedigree. His music is very melody driven which is such a refreshing change. There aren’t many electronic producers out there at use melody in such a clever way. In “L’Aventure,” I especially like the warbling synth. It gives an indication that Michael is capable of into deeper phat sounds. I could listen to this music all day and not get bored, a rarity for me. Yes this guy is the real deal and I’m a fan already.”
