Michael Gabriel is a Canadian composer, producer, and musician originally from Montreal, now based in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia.
A former member of Men Without Hats and co-founder of the Montreal project Isinglass, Gabriel brings decades of experience into a body of work that has steadily gained international attention, with airplay in over 50 countries.
His solo work marks a clear shift toward a more intimate and cinematic form of electronic music. His debut album Surfacing, released June 21, 2023, introduced a sound centered on atmosphere, restraint, and emotional depth rather than genre conventions.
Drawing influence from David Bowie, Talking Heads, Brian Eno, and Moby, his work also sits alongside artists such as Ólafur Arnalds, Jon Hopkins, and Air. Piano, ambient textures, and subtle rhythmic elements form the foundation of compositions that unfold slowly and deliberately.
His music is less about spectacle and more about presence. Each piece is built to hold space, to invite stillness, and to linger.
